Who should choose Wellos instead

PlateJoy's notice said its recipes were moving to the Wellos app, and that PlateJoy users would get an email with free access to Wellos. Wellos's site describes weight-health support: goal setting, weekly lessons and meal planning with recipes and menus, plus coaching or clinical care for some people, depending on their benefits. Getting started means signing in, answering a few health questions and being matched to a program. If a weight-health program appeals and you want to follow PlateJoy's recipes, start there; its price and any grocery store handoff are not stated on its site. Choose Grocerplan for a free weekly plan, one grocery list, and the store you pick on Instacart.

Honest limits

•
A website, not an App Store or Google Play app (it works in your phone's browser).
•
A small catalog: 137 recipes, 78 of them dinners.
•
Keto, Low Carb, Paleo, Whole30 and Mediterranean have few recipes so far, so plans for them mix in other dinners, and the Plan screen says so.
•
Plans follow your diets, allergens and dislikes, not weight or calorie goals. There is no coaching or nutritionist.
•
We cannot check recipes you import for allergens; you confirm them yourself. The planner picks only from Grocerplan's recipes, and the Plan tab's picker hides imported ones while you have allergies set.
•
The Instacart handoff works in the United States only.
•
One login per household, and one week planned at a time.
•
No export button yet; ask us for a copy of your data.

Questions

Did PlateJoy shut down?
Yes. PlateJoy's notice said it would no longer be available as an app or website after July 1, 2025, that subscriptions would end that day with pro-rated refunds for time paid past it, and that its recipes were moving to the Wellos app.
PlateJoy shut down. What should I use instead?
It depends on what you used it for. For a weekly meal plan and a grocery list you can send to Instacart, Grocerplan is free and gives each person in the home their own profile. For PlateJoy's recipes and a weight-health program, its notice pointed users to Wellos.
Is there a PlateJoy alternative that still sends the list to Instacart?
Yes. Grocerplan plans seven dinners, builds one grocery list, and Shop on Instacart opens that list on Instacart, where you choose the store, add to cart and check out. Grocerplan never places an order or takes payment. PlateJoy had announced its own Instacart integration in 2016.
Where did PlateJoy's recipes go?
PlateJoy's notice said they were moving to the Wellos app, and that PlateJoy users would get an email with free access to Wellos. Wellos's site describes weight-health support with goal setting, weekly lessons and meal planning.
Is Grocerplan free?
Yes. It never takes payment; you pay on Instacart when you check out there. Grocerplan may earn a commission when you check out on Instacart.
Is there an iPhone or Android app?
Not in the app stores. Grocerplan runs in the browser on any phone or computer, so there is nothing to download.
